MUTTS Creator Patrick McDonnell on His “Second Shot” with Abstract Art | City Pulse
Patrick McDonnell has been an artist for over 40 years. Best known for MUTTS, he has always made personal and abstract paintings while drawing comics and illustrations for publication. In Patrick McDonnell's ‘Side Effects: Paintings by Patrick McDonnell 2016-2021’ the public will get to see the private side of McDonnell's art where his masterful line and expression shifts scale in intensity to surround us in an atmosphere of humor, dread, and hope. Emma: Can you start by telling us a brief summary of your upcoming exhibition? Patrick: Well, it’s the first exhibition of the crazy, turbulent paintings I created during the crazy turbulent years of 2016 through 2021. I enjoy drawing MUTTS, but for years I’ve been doing large abstract paintings whenever I had the time.
